Engineering, up close
Inside a door closer.
Scroll to take a rack-and-pinion closer apart.
How it works
Springs store the push. Oil controls the close.
Opening the door turns the pinion, drives the piston along its rack and compresses the springs. Two valves meter the oil, so the door closes and latches at the speed you set.
Specify it right
Matched to the door it closes.
Door weight, width, fire rating and traffic decide the closer — from medium to extra-heavy duty, standard or track arm, surface or concealed.
Door closersEvery part of the door, from one supplier.
Hang it, control it, secure it, seal it. Choose a part to see the range — in American Standard or European ironmongery.
Secure the door
Mortise and cylindrical locksets, deadlocks and cylinders — up to ANSI Grade 1.
